RCOY

The surname RCOY, established by Dora and Michael in 2020, symbolizes a deliberate shift in the historical narrative of Black American surnames and their associated slavery connotations. Motivated by a desire to redefine familial identity and transcend negative stereotypes, Michael and Dora initiated this change by bestowing the surname RCOY upon their firstborn child, thereby inaugurating a new legacy. Committed to reshaping their own identities, they are presently engaged in the process of adopting RCOY as their own last name, signifying a profound commitment to reclaiming their heritage and shaping a positive narrative for generations to come. Additionally, it's noteworthy that "RCOY" can also be interpreted as an acronym for "Recreation Of Your self," encapsulating the essence of their transformative journey.

Our family crest

In incorporating the Adinkra symbol "Woforo Dua Pa A" into our family crest logo, we honor its profound significance and its ties to our ancestral roots. The symbol, translating to "When you climb a good tree," embodies the essence of growth, resilience, and most importantly SUPPORT! By choosing it, we pay homage to our West African heritage as Black people in America. It stems from an effort to add to a new dynasty on top of the shadows of Black American history.
